What to Expect

6 Nights / 7 Days

This itinerary has been carefully designed to give you a taste of the exciting, endless possibilities and can be tailored to suit your exact preferences.

Day 1 : Route – Airport / Galle

Driving time: Approx. 02 ½ hours drive

Overnight: Jetwing Kurulubedda – Bed & breakfast basis

Following your arrival at the airport, meet your English speaking chauffeur guide and transfer to Galle.

Spend the rest of the day at leisure at the hotel surrounded by serene villages and paddy fields.

Contemporary and traditional Sri Lankan design and architectural features adorn the property’s legacy.

Day 2 : Route – Galle

Overnight: Jetwing Kurulubedda – Bed & breakfast basis

Today after breakfast you will experience the slow life of a southern village. Travel by boat with a local naturalist to a lesser-known village to cycle by patches of jungle, paddy fields and local neighbourhoods. End the experience with cooking up a gracious Sinhalese meal.

This is an experience to explore the quintessential village life of southern Sri Lanka. We start the experience with a boat ride along a local river and ride up stream as we watch the local bird and aquatic life. The boat is led by a local naturalist who will identify birds and share his experiences in living by the river.

We dock the boat at a coconut husk workshop where we see how locals use coconut husks to be turned in to various household tools. We switch on to bikes for the next part of the experience to cycle through the local village. This easy bike ride goes through various parts of the village giving a glimpse in to the lives of the local community.

We stop at a vendor to pick up local vegetables for our cooking session. We then reach a traditional wattle and daub hut to prepare a Sinhalese feast. While we cook along with the host, we get to know more about local ingredients, spices, and cooking techniques. We end the experience with an extensive Sinhalese lunch.

  • Includes: Host, boat ride, bike ride, cooking class and lunch
  • Times: 9.30am. 3.5 hours
  • Children: Suitable for children above 5
  • To wear/bring: Comfortable activewear

Thereafter you will be taken to Hadungoda white tea factory and also sip a cup of warm tea.

Known for its flavourful black tea, the low-grown plantations of the Ruhuna district in the south contrast those in the central highlands that are synonymous with our island beverage. The Handunugoda Tea Estate, which sits at a humble elevation just above 100 feet, is arguably the world’s closest estate to the ocean. Flanked by a lush forest, the estate continues to use machinery that has been operating for over a century, and is best known for its production of virgin white tea – a variant inspired by an ancient Chinese tradition, where the leaves are plucked using golden scissors, and is never touched by human hands until it reaches the lips of its worthy consumer.

From Jetwing Kurulubedda, the Handunugoda Tea Estate can be reached via a 45-minute drive through the southern backlands. The rising greenery that envelops small villages along the way is not only scenic, but also makes you forget that you are in the south of the island – a region constantly associated with its sunny beaches and coastal pleasures.

Day 3 : Route – Galle / Yala

Driving time: Approx. 03 ½ hours

Overnight: Jetwing Safari Camp – All Inclusive basis

After a leisurely breakfast, transfer to Yala to visit the most iconic national park in Sri Lanka.

Check in to your luxury camp site and have a well-deserved lunch before heading on your safari at Yala national park!

Yala National Park is the second largest nature reserve in Sri Lanka, and without a doubt the most famous. With a history of over 100 years, this famed sanctuary is the world’s best place to spot the elusive leopard, majestic Sri Lankan elephant, and sloth bear – all in their natural habitat within a single reserve. In addition to having one of the highest concentrations of leopards in the world, Yala National Park is home to over 40 other mammals and over 200 species of birds.

The entrance to Yala block I, the most popular block of the five blocks, is within a 10-minute drive of Jetwing Safari Camp while the park’s other, relatively quieter blocks can be accessed within an hour’s drive.

Day 4 : Route – Yala

Overnight: Jetwing Safari Camp – All Inclusive basis

In the early morning, take a packed breakfast and go on another morning safari at Yala National park.

Late afternoon visit Sithulpawwa. In ancient times, Sithulpawwa was known as Chiththala Pabbatha, or “the hill of the quiet mind”. The nature of such a name is personified by its significance as an ancient Buddhist monastery dating back to the reign of King Kavantissa in the 2nd century B.C. The monastic complex includes several religious sites including a cave with paintings over 2000 years old, as well as a temple atop a resident rock that rises above the surrounding wilderness.

Located just over an hour away from Jetwing Safari Camp, Sithulpawwa is located deep within the natural habitats of the Yala National Park and is no stranger to wildlife such as elephants and leopards frequenting the area. Surrounded by only the sounds of the wilderness and temple chants, a journey to Sithulpawwa is a peaceful escape that is fitting for its name.

Day 5 : Route – Yala / Bentota

Driving time: Approx. 3 hours both ways

Overnight: Yathra by Jetwing – Two Bedroom Houseboat – Bed & breakfast basis

Today after a leisurely breakfast proceed to Bentota to spend your last night in Sri Lanka. Enroute enjoy a scrumptious lunch at Calamansi Cove Villas by Jetwing.

Yathra Houseboat by Jetwing floats upon the gentle waters of the Bentara River, as Sri Lanka’s first houseboat within the southern backlands of Bentota.

Later this day you will explore the waters of the Bentota river. When you choose to live aboard a houseboat, the waters that surround you naturally call out for exploration. For us at Yathra by Jetwing, the Bentara River is one that is familiar, and serves as a wonderful adventure for you to experience the inland waters in a province otherwise known for its beaches. Crocodiles, monitor lizards and exotic species of birds grace the mangrove-laden ecosystem of this long southern waterway habited by traditional fishing communities. In addition, a voyage along the Bentara River is incomplete without a visit to the Pahurukanda Temple – a mountainous islet with a replica of the Lord Buddha’s footprint similar to the one found at the summit of Adam’s Peak.

At Yathra by Jetwing, the waters of the Bentara River are our home. Depending on weather conditions, the expedition through the quieter tributaries of this inland waterway lasts for a few hours, and is best experienced either early morning or towards the sunset – when our surrounding environment is alive in all its glory.

You can also visit Saman villas for a relaxing spa treatment.

Day 6 : Route – Galle / Airport

Driving time: Approx. 2.5hours

After a leisurely morning and breakfast head to the airport in time for your flight with pleasant memories and a feeling that you only left your footprints on our beloved island
