These points offer you fun waves with an easy take-off that can barrel on bigger swells.

In Ahangama, you will want to find out secret spots here and to rest and relax on these sandy beaches as well. Weligama is said to be best for beginners and intermediate, however it has waves that lasts 400 metres! So why not try yourself out there in exploring new surfing points?

Benny’s at the front of Hikkaduwa town is a popular spot that breaks on shallow reef, and is for the more advanced surfer, or intermediate looking to push themselves. North Jetty is a left hand reef break directly beside the Hikkaduwa harbor wall is a great spot for advanced surfers. However, the main beach break at Hikkaduwa town is a sand bottom and ideal for a beginner if you are getting to water for the first time. Don’t forget to see the sea turtles while you are here as well!

Your chauffeur guide will be happy to drive you around patiently and enthusiastically.

Enjoy sampling the good in the beach side small restaurants after your surf sessions with a fantastic seafood platter and some local beers.

Important to know-

  • Sri Lanka has two very different surf hubs operating on opposing surf season schedules. The monsoon season in the South West runs from May to September and in the South East from October to January.
  • Bring your sun protection
  • Bring cash when you can as there are not many ATMs to take money out from in smaller towns.
  • The temperature in Sri Lanka is likely be in the 86-104 degrees Fahrenheit range or 30-40 degrees Celsius, hence we recommend surfing in the mornings and evenings as often as possible to avoid the brutal sun and heat.
  • If you are a beginner, you can take part in 15 minutes preparation classes on the beach on ‘surfing basics’ before heading out into the water.
  • In general, Arugam Bay and Hikkaduwa regularly form fast, technically demanding waves while other surfing points are while other surfing points offer mid-size, not overly powerful waves making ideal for beginner or to work on your techniques.
