What to Expect

11 Nights / 12 Days

This itinerary has been carefully designed to give you a taste of the exciting, endless possibilities and can be tailored to suit your exact preferences.

Day 1 : Route – Airport / Negombo

Drive Time  Approximately 25 minute drive

Accommodation – Jetwing Beach 

Arrive in Sri Lanka in the style you deserve, greeted by your chauffeur guide with flower garlands and transferred directly to Negombo where you can relax and unwind on one of the island’s world-class beaches. Stretched along the west coast, the beach town of Negombo is only a short dash from the Airport and a placid way to get your bearings when arriving in Sri Lanka!

The Sri Lankan culture is predominately Buddhist; meaning that the country is very welcoming and safe for ladies! Commence your vacation with the girls at a luxurious setting in our beachside accommodation; Jetwing Beach and bask in the sun, splash in the water, and let the waves wash over your feet.

Stretch back in a hammock with a drink in your hand to shake off the jetlag. A traditional Ayurvedic treatment from our spa center will help you adjust to the new time zone. Watch the sunset over the Indian Ocean and marvel at its rich pinks and ambers while you wriggle your toes in the white sands of the beach and prepare yourself for the exciting days ahead.

Day 2 : Route – Negombo / Sigiriya

Drive Time – Approximately 4 and half hour drive

Once you have gotten some sun and have adapted to Sri Lanka’s relaxingly slow pace, you’ll be ready to see some of the island’s wild side with the girls!

To begin with, embark on an off-the beaten experience by visiting the infamous fish market in Negombo known as the ‘Lellama’. Walk on the beach and watch fishermen untangle their fishing nets and witness the fish being auctioned & sold to retail & commercial customers alike. This will indeed be an unforgettable experience!

Set off from coastal Negombo to experience the inland delights of Sri Lanka. As you drive past picturesque routes, you will meet the small town of Kajugama where you could buy some crunchy cashews sold by the girls of Kajugama! Adorned in colorful dresses, these ladies’ emerge from coconut leaf huts to hail vehicles to stop to buy cashews. Have an amicable chat with the ladies about their livelihood as you nibble away to some freshly prepared cashews ranging from raw, spice to fried nuts!

Journey pass sprawling rice paddy fields until you meet the bustling town of Kurunegala and make your way for a quick visit to Selyn; a social and solidarity company specializing in handmade weaving. Watch mesmerized as rural artisan women weave a myriad of fabrics from home textiles, to garments and toys.

After devouring a lunch cooked by the village women, begin your inland experience by making a stop at the Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage in time for bathing. The sight of over 80 elephants roaming around, rubbing themselves against trees and playing together will remain etched in your memory for the rest of your life. This truly is an unforgettable elephant experience. Do not forget to feed some fruits to the older elephants and milk to the younger ones.

After your visit to Pinnawela, gradually make your way to Sigiriya and check-into Aliya Resort and Spa; a serene resort nestled among the lush greenery of rolling fields, decades old indigenous trees and stunning views across the pool to the famed Lion Rock!

Enjoy a stunning sunset, some pool time and cocktails with your girls to mark a perfect end for the day. The resort includes a night club if you feel like dancing the night away with your girl crew!

Day 3 : Route – Sigiriya

Accommodation – Aliya Resort & Spa   

Rise early for a breakfast of egg hoppers with your girls, as you have a royal invitation to explore the majestic 5th century fortress in the sky; the most visited historical site in the country! This gigantic column of rock, rising up 200 meters (660ft) into the heavens was once a royal palace and is today acclaimed a UNESCO listed World Heritage site.

Step into the past; let your imagination go riot. With its man-made fountains and ponds and beautifully landscaped pleasure gardens surrounded by moats you can easily let your imagination run wild and picture the glorious past of kings and queens of the rock fortress and take in the 8th century poetic verses of the mirror wall with frescoes of enchanting ladies of the past royal courts. Take a panoramic picture with the girls to mark your triumph to the summit!

Descend the fortress with the antics of the local monkeys to amuse you and gradually return to the resort to spend a relaxed afternoon at leisure. Do not forget to visit the Ayurveda treatment center at the resort with the girls to experience the power of therapeutic and traditional holistic medicine. The resort’s in-house Ayurvedic doctor will guide you on a journey to complete wellness and inner balance. After some glam, join in for a meditation and yoga date with the girls – a perfect complement after a spa treatment.

 

 

Day 4 : Route – Sigiriya / Kandy

Drive Time – Approximately 2 and half hour drive

Wake up to the morning light dancing through the trees and beams of the window, your skin will feel energized and more alive than it has been in a long time! Adjust to the forest’s chattering silence, the chorus fluctuating each hour of the day. There is an unexplainable kind of magic in it in the early hours of the morning; one which can only be agreed when experienced and felt!

After a delicious Sri Lankan breakfast, journey to the Hill Capitol of Sri Lanka to the last stronghold of the Sinhalese Kingdom; Kandy. Some days Kandy’s skies seem perpetually bruised, with stubborn mist clinging to the hills surrounding the city’s beautiful centerpiece lake. Delicate hill-country breezes impel the mist to gently part, revealing colorful houses amid Kandy’s improbable forested halo. Here’s a city that looks good even when it’s raining!

Before reaching the borders of the city, break your journey at one of the many Batik factories in Matale to learn the craft of Batik. You will learn that the batik work is the art of using wax on fabric when dyeing and the wax is dripped in a pattern using a spouted tool called a ‘canting’ or a preset design using a copper stamp called a ‘cap’. Admire the colorful and unique designs with your girls and take a souvenir back home.

Gradually continue your journey to the Matale Heritage Centre to witness the artistic designs of Mrs. Ena de Silva. Be mesmerized by the hand art and craft products made by the village ladies that help in aiding thier empowerment.

Before dusk sets in, reach the rolling hills of the Buddhist capital! End the evening with a small hike to the Bahirawakanda Buddha Statue located atop of the Bahirawa Kanda hill which can be seen from the entire city of Kandy that sprawls out before it! It is best to visit at sunset, when the city is bathed in a golden glow as the sun drops behind the mountains in the distance.

Day 5 : Route – Kandy

Spend the morning at leisure with the girls by the pool enjoying the amazing views of the Victoria Sanctuary and the Knuckles mountain ranges!

After working up an appetite in the morning, why not enjoy a Sri Lankan cooking lesson with the girls? Get introduced to the Sri Lankan culinary methods by engaging in a cookery demonstration with the head Chef using only clay material items as; Fired clay pots and hand-made spoons made from coconut shells and wooden handles. Indulge in a typical Sri Lankan cooking lesson that promises an authentic experience as well as a delicious meal!

After a delightfully flavorsome lunch, proceed to Kandy and explore the charming streets of Kandy with the girls to try your hand at different local delicacies. Start the trip with some exotic fruits in the market and learn about the various regional vegetables and their uses. Head to the women’s co-operative for some authentic snacks that you’d only get to try if you knew someone’s grandmother! Do not forget to enjoy a visit to the colorful street market which offers everything from aromatic spices, clothes, jewelry shops and various knick-knacks!

Follow the sound of the evening drums to pay a visit to the Temple of the Tooth. Join the Buddhists who, dressed in all white, offer puja while catching a glimpse of the great sacred tooth relic of the Buddha. The golden-roofed ancient royal palace complex houses Sri Lanka’s most important Buddhist relic – a tooth of the Buddha. If you are interested in living in the real traditions, daily service/Pooja is ideal to part-take in. Pick a flower from the flower market in the city square and offer it to the Temple along with a lit oil lamp for good fortune and peace.

Back at the hotel, relish a quite night with the girls enjoying a glass of wine and chatting up about the exciting days to come.

Day 6 : Route – Kandy / Wellawaya

Train ride – Approximately 6 and half hour train journey

Accommodation – Jetwing Kaduruketha  

Enjoy a breakfast on dhal and hoppers, before hopping aboard the morning train to travel up those verdant green hills that surround Kandy and venture further into Sri Lanka’s most beautiful and magic region – the Hill Country – proceeding to the quiet town of Wellawaya. With its cool air, magnificent waterfalls, and thriving tea culture, the enchanting allure of these hills has to be seen to believe! The final tooting of the horn signals the train leaving Kandy station and thus begins the magical train ride. Going through dense cloud forests, orderly tea plantations, beautiful waterfalls, gigantic mountain ranges, mysterious valleys and tunnels carved out of natural rock the train slowly makes a 2024m climb. While all of this demands the attention of the traveler the highlight of the journey is the famed Nine arch demodara bridge and the 441ft log demodara loop where the railway track does some magic and disappears under itself and emerge from the tunnel. This six hour journey is sure to have many moments of breathlessness attached to it and will be filled with exclamations of WOW! Awesome! Unbelievable and Out-of-this-world!; in addition to being a memorable photography session with the girls! Don’t forget to try some street food in the train which is mostly freshly cut pineapple slices or deep fried vades!

Arriving at Ella hours later, be met with your chauffer guide at the station and take a quick ride down the mountain to the dry plains of Wellawaya to arrive at your rustic eco-resort for the next two days; Jetwing Kaduruketha; unique agro eco-resort fringed by paddy fields and peaceful forests. Amid the rural setting, the only things likely to disturb the serenity are the call of songbirds or the chatter of peacocks

A stroll around the property after hours with the girls will have you engulfed in discovering some of our enthralling nocturnal friends as owls, frogs and a plethora of insects that are sure to pique your interest!

 

Day 7 : Route – Wellawaya

Drive Time – N/A

Accommodation – Jetwing Kaduruketha  

Wake up refreshed to the cool breeze sweeping over the paddy fields and open the shutters to watch farmers tending rice and the team harvesting the organic kitchen garden as a wealth of wildlife – flying foxes, hanging parrots and hornbills – goes about its business.

Start your morning with a walk through the verdant paddy fields of Jetwing Kaduruketha, accompanied by the resident naturalist and learn the nitty-gritties of paddy cultivation and the many varieties of traditional rice, including how they are grown and their many health benefits.

After a Sri Lankan breakfast of pol roti, milk rice and lunu miris, cycle to the small yet enchanting, Ella Wala waterfall. Hidden inside the jungle about 5 kilometers from the town, the ride up to the waterfall is an exciting and scenic one, passing lush paddy fields, villages, river beds and streams. The natural pool at the base of the waterfall is perfect for a refreshing dip with the girls!

Back at your dwelling; get ready for an evening filled with fun, frolic and plenty of good Sri Lankan food. Tonight enjoy an authentic Hopper Party with piping hot hoppers being prepared right in front of you. You can also try your hand at making some hoppers yourself by swirling the batter in the hot pan and cracking the egg into the Centre, of course under the guidance of the local veteran. Nibble into delicious, crispy egg hoppers and plain hoppers accompanied by dhal and chicken curry, so yummy it will just melt in the mouth. Wash it down with a glass of chilled beer and call it a day after having tucked into a platter of local seasonal fruits.

Top Tip| Hopper is a traditional Sri Lankan cuisine prepared out of rice flour and coconut milk, turned out using a hopper pan. It looks like a pancake but certainly taste different and more exciting! This dining experience will certainly turnout to be one of the highlights of your Sri Lankan tour with the girls!

 

Day 8 : Route – Wellawaya / Yala

Drive Time – Approximately 2 and half hour drive

Accommodation – Leopard Trails bespoke Tented Safari     

Are you ready to spice up your holiday with some adventure…. here you go then.. Today you will be ready to explore the wildlife in the lush green jungles of Yala – the second largest National Park in Sri Lanka.

Along with a fresh pot of curd and treacle to beat the heat, embark on an afternoon safari at the park. Arrive at the park entrance on time as the safari starts at 3 pm and spans for about 2 to 3 hrs. You will be able to touch base with some of your favorite animals; watch Leopards feed, laze and play in the open, and if you’re lucky you’ll see plenty of them as Yala is known to have the highest density of Leopards in the world. Listen to the elephants trumpet, monkeys chatter, sloth bear grunts and the melodious bird song from the verdant woods. Watch out! There’s plenty more to stop you on your tracks and let your heart pound faster. Try a dusk safari first and if the animals aren’t playing ball, have a contingency dawn tour set up too!

As dusk settles in, retire to the Leopard trails bespoke tented safaris with only the canvas walls of your tent separating you from the wonders of the remarkable bio diversity.

At the campsite enjoy a BBQ dinner and a bonfire under the stars in quiet wilderness. As the night goes on you will be able hear a million noises from crickets to monkeys who are settling into the night. Fill your heart and soul with a good drink and company with the girls while you bear witness to Mother Nature’s masterpiece – the jungle orchestra!

Day 9 : Route – Yala / Galle

Drive Time – Approximately 3 and a half hour drive

Accommodation – Mosvold Villa

After enjoying an early breakfast with a camera full of wildlife photos, you may be ready to explore the island’s sun and surf. You’ve waited long enough! Today you will head out of the jungle and into the charming town of Galle, one of Sri Lanka’s most alluring sea-side retreats.

On the way, in Tissamaharama you’re sure to witness wayside stalls with stacks of clay pots on display. These stalls are selling a local delicacy: buffalo curd. Enjoy a cup of curd with locally made treacle.

Top Tip| Sri Lankans call curd “Meekiri” it’s so delicious it makes mass produced yoghurt forever seem insipid!

Pass the hills to the meandering rivers, past the farms and to the idyllic southern coast until you arrive at the enchanting Mosvold Villa; where you can surf by day and party by night! Spend a relaxed evening by the beach listening to the waves break.

End the evening with a private viewing of a Sri Lankan traditional martial art called ‘Angampora”. Be mesmerized as the art is performed by men who descend from warrior families that are dedicated for the preservation of the art, carried from generation to generation until today – a highlight of your tour and a moment you will cherish forever!

 

Day 10: Route – Galle

Drive Time – N/A

Accommodation – Mosvold Villa

Want to make your journey more memorable? Today journey to the bottom of the ocean or nearly there. Galle has some finest spots to indulge in some great snorkeling. Travel a few hundred meters off the shore in the calm, shallow waters; snorkel amongst living coral and hundreds of colorful reef fish; all carefully protected by the reef. You could also opt to visit the beaches of Hikkaduwa to snorkel or else you can visit the secret beaches of Delawella and Hiriketiya to have a truly memorable beach experience.

After lunch spend some time exploring the beautiful fort town and its rich history. Interestingly, Galle is a living world heritage site that you can explore by a leisurely walk in the afternoon. Explore on foot, an endlessly exotic old trading port blessed with imposing Dutch-colonial buildings, ancient mosques and churches, grand mansions and museums, stylish cafes, quirky boutiques, impeccably restored hotels and cafes serving yummy food and cold beer. Alternatively you could, bicycle through Galle Fort’s sleepy, cobblestone streets and markets to experience the quiet, peaceful lifestyle of Sri Lanka’s southern coast!

Do not forget to stop and witness the amazing cliff jumpers who jump from ramparts of the Galle fort to the deep sea. Witness as those adrenaline junkies run to the edge, flies and dives head first in to the sea! Surfaces back and jump from a shallower rock again! Then climbs the rock and comes back to the top effortlessly. It is definitely not a sight to be missed!

Galle Fort houses some chic bars and a restaurants where you can sample amazing signature cocktails, fine wines, local or international beers in a relaxed and intimate setting. Find an idyllic spot to witness the mesmerizing sunset and enjoy ultimate relaxation out on a cool open-sided veranda with the girls.

 

 

Day 11: Route – Galle / Colombo

Drive Time – Approximately 2 and half hour drive

You’ll have a heavy heart by now! After a hearty breakfast, bid good bye to the coasts of Galle and proceed to the Commercial capital of Sri Lanka; Colombo. Sri Lanka’s modern commercial capital, Colombo combines colonial and contemporary architecture along its bustling streets, from the English-style cricket green, to the grand Independence Hall, to sunset views from the Galle Face Hotel terrace. No longer just the sprawling city you have to endure on your way to the beaches, it has become a worthy destination in its own right and makes an excellent start – or finish – to your Sri Lankan adventures.

Once in the main city how about taking a personalized walk through the streets of Colombo? Colombo is a vibrant and busy urban metropolis that boasts of all the mod-cons of today’s world in addition to some traditions of a bygone era, still alive and waiting to be experienced. The busiest areas of Colombo are definitely the Fort and the Pettah, the key commercial trading hubs. Walking through the crowds is an exciting challenge, especially avoiding the ‘Natami” (laborers) pushing carts or carrying heavy loads over their shoulders and the excitement gets greater with every step towards the busy bazaar; here you can pick up a range of items from clothes, footwear, gold, jewelry, toys, electronics and anything and everything that crosses your mind and most importantly at a bargain price.

Your afternoon entails having our chauffeur guide introduce you to some of Colombo’s curious sites such as the old city of Fort, the Hindu Temple at Sea Street, Dutch Church at Wolfendal, Red Mosque, the Khan clock tower and a peek at the island’s premier cultural institution; the Colombo National Museum. For any last-minute souvenirs we suggest you make a quick stop at Selyn or Barefoot and the infamous Spa Ceylon Ayurvedic shops for some glamorous souvenirs!  End the evening with a visit to the Galle Face Green, a public walk for a refreshing change; relish some juicy pineapple from the wayside vendors or try some delicious local cuisine from the street food stalls.

Retire for the night to sojourn at Galle Face Hotel; an iconic landmark situated in the heart of Colombo along the seafront and facing the infamous Galle Face Green. Enjoy an intimate dinner with the ladies to mark an end to an unforgettable 11 days with them!

Day 12: Route – Colombo / Airport

Drive Time – Approximately 1 hour drive

With a camera memory card full to the brim of a memorable girls tour, your chauffeur guide will return you by way of a scenic drive to the international airport for your departing flight and a safe journey home.
