Kataragama is one of Sri Lanka’s most sacred towns, revered by Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims and indigenous Vedda people. Known for its annual festival featuring fire walking and processions, it draws thousands of pilgrims. The Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Devalaya is the spiritual centrepiece, surrounded by shrines and prayer sites. Located near Yala National Park, the town offers both spiritual and wildlife experiences.
