Baker’s Falls, named after the British explorer Sir Samuel Baker, is one of the most scenic stops within Horton Plains National Park. At 20 meters high, it may not rival others in size, but its raw power and picturesque location make it an unforgettable feature of the highlands. What sets it apart is its setting, cloud forests, rhododendrons, ferns and endemic flora surround this roaring cascade.
Located along the loop trail to World’s End, Baker’s Falls offers travellers a chance to rest, reflect and admire the sheer force of water tumbling over dark rock ledges. The falls are at their best just after the monsoon, when the flow is strongest and the surrounding foliage is lush and humming with life.
It’s also a haven for wildlife watchers, with frequent sightings of endemic bird species, sambar deer and sometimes even leopards (from a distance). The journey to reach it involves a well maintained trail and gentle descent, rewarding hikers with cool mist and serene forest silence.
Sri Lanka Tailor-Made recommends Baker’s Falls to eco tourists, trekking enthusiasts and anyone seeking nature without the crowds. It’s not just a waterfall, it’s a window into the island’s alpine soul.
