Devon Falls, one of Sri Lanka’s most graceful waterfalls, descends in a silken ribbon along the tea laden hills of Talawakele. At 97 meters, its elegant plunge has earned it the nickname “Veil of the Valley,” and it’s named after Devon, a British coffee planter who once owned the land nearby.
The fall is beautifully set against a backdrop of velvety green plantations, creating a postcard perfect scene. It’s easily viewed from the roadside, particularly from Devon Viewpoint or even from certain cafés perched along the A7 highway, a popular tea break for road trippers heading to or from Nuwara Eliya.
Though not as thunderous as others, its poise and position make it especially photogenic, particularly in the early morning when mist rolls in through the hills. Many visitors pair a visit with St. Clair’s Falls, located just a few kilometers away, for a perfect twin waterfall experience in the highlands.
Sri Lanka Tailor-Made recommends Devon Falls for casual explorers, photographers and those driving through tea country. It’s not about adrenaline here, it’s about grace, serenity and enjoying nature’s beauty in a more refined, relaxed rhythm.
