Day 1 : Route – Airport / Kandy

Welcome to Sri Lanka, the pearl of the Indian Ocean! In keeping with Sri Lankan tradition, all of us here at Jetwing Travels will like to extend to you our heartiest “Ayubowan!” (Traditional Sri Lankan greeting wishing long life to the other)

On arrival at the Bandaranaike International Airport you will be met by your Chauffeur guide & transfer to your hotel in Kandy.

Transfer Time (Airport to Kandy: Approximately 03 ½ hours.

Check into your hotel & rest of the day at leisure.

Day 2 : Route – Kandy

Early morning set off to hike Gonawatta Gala. Rising from the road opposite the hotel, Gonawatta Gala is a wooded, rocky escarpment that is perfect for an early morning or late afternoon hike. The path falls through several types of habitat, including grassland, lightly wooded forest, and abandoned pepper plantations – each hosting its own niche of wildlife and biodiversity. The hike culminates at a collection of boulders at the summit of the climb which affords picturesque panoramas of the river flowing past the hotel and the land beyond. For more athletic climbers, the flat top of the rocks, once clambered onto, provides a private respite for a picnic under the setting sun.

Note – A shorter trail is available for younger adventurers.

 In the evening you will experience a City tour in Kandy including visits to Temple of the Tooth.

  •  Light Colored clothing with sleeves and trousers or skirts below the knee length are recommended.
  • Since this is a religious site – the foot ware should be removed before entering you could wear socks if you wish to.

Temple of the Tooth which is commonly known as “Sri Dalada Maligawa” is situated in the city of hills, Kandy. It is an important shrine for Buddhists as it holds the tooth relic of Lord Buddha. It is famous for its carvings and the beautiful art that is unique to Sri Lanka. The most important part of the Dalada Maligawa is the octagon (Pathirppuwa). The Sri Dalada Maligawa is the most sacred temple in the whole of Sri Lanka. Thousands of people line up each day to get a glimpse of its majesty.

Day 3 : Route – Kandy

Hop on a tuk tuk and navigate the rural setting of Gampola to explore the three lesser known temples in the area with a knowledgeable host. Start off with Gadaladeniya Viharaya, a temple built exclusively by stone by Gampola’s King Bhuvanekabahu IV. Settled on a rock cliff, the temple exhibits a combination of Dravidian and Sinhalese architecture styles and offer its visitors a panoramic view of the countryside. Then enjoy a ride though paddy fields and reach the second temple, Lankathilaka, considered as the most magnificent architectural monument to be built during the Gampola era. During the experience, your host will talk you through the foundations of Buddhism and its significance in Sri Lanka. Before making your way to Embekka, a Hindu shrine, stopover at a plantation that grows tea, coffee and pepper to get a glimpse of the island’s numerous cultivations. This particular shrine is renowned for its intricately carved wooden pillars and its high pitched roof. Embekke consists of three sections, the ‘Sanctum of Garagha’, the ‘Dancing Hall’ and the ‘Drummers’ Hall’.

In the evening visit Royal Botanical Gardens.

Royal Botanical Gardens – About 6km (4miles) southwest of the town center at Peradeniya on the Colombo highway, close to the banks of the Mahaweli Ganga, these gorgeous gardens were first planted and laid out for king Kirthi Sri Rajasingha (1747-1780) and cover some 60ha (150acres) of trees lawns and flowering shrubs, including a 20-ha (50acre) arboretum of more than 10,000 trees. Under British rule, the royal park became a botanical garden in 1821 and is the largest of Sri Lanka’s three main botanical gardens.

Day 4 : Route – Kandy / Nuwara Eliya (Train Journey Duration – Approx. 04 ½ hours) / Ambewela

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Kandy train Station to get on board to the local train which is how the British used to travel during the colonial times in the late 1800’s. You will have reserved seats for you and witness the beautiful ride along forests, villages, Waterfalls and tea estates.


  • It is important to note that there have been delays in the train timings quite often.
  • Please note the purchase of train tickets cannot be guaranteed currently due to the process in place within the Sri Lanka Railways Department especially during peak periods. Tickets for travel are only issued 30 days in advance of travel, are limited and extremely difficult to obtain. In the unlikely event a ticket/s cannot be obtained we will of course make the necessary refunds & the clients will travel by road. This is a destination issue and It is best expectations are managed accordingly.

Arrive at the Nanu oya station and meet with our driver who will transfer your hotel.

Transfer Time (Nuwara Eliya to Ambewela): Approximately 30 minutes

Check into your hotel & spend rest of the day at leisure.

Day 5 : Route – Ambewela

Accommodation – Jetwing Warwick Gardens, Nuwara Eliya

After a leisurely breakfast, you will enjoy Meena Amma’s Tea Experience. She will take you through a series of unique, immersive experiences designed around the life of the world renowned Sri Lankan tea and a community of people brimming with love and warmth, and explore a side of Sri Lanka you can never find anywhere else.

You will experience a City tour in Nuwara Eliya & enjoy lunch at Oatlands by Jetwing.

Evening you will enjoy a High Tea overlooking the mountains.

Spend rest of the day at leisure.

Day 6 : Route – Ambewela / Colombo

Accommodation – Jetwing Colombo Seven, Colombo

After breakfast you will be transferred to Colombo.

Day 7 : Route – Colombo / Airport

As all good things must come to an end, we bid you farewell as our Chauffeur Guide transfers you to the Airport to meet your departure flight home.
